Are you having trouble getting used to these forums? Or perhaps you are just interested in some features you might not know about? Then please read through this tutorial.

[Tutorial] Using The HGN Forums

Now, seeing as how active any and all sub-boards are, I've taken a liberty to post a small tutorial on, how to properly browse a forum to maximize productivity and community input.

Forum Navigation

Note; for the purposes of this thread I havn't followed this tutorial to create typical circumstances.

Step 1, Find a board. Looks like you've already completed this step.

Step 2:

Check the icons to the left of 'each' section that is relevent to your interests

General Discussion and all the SRP sections are most relevent to the average HGN'er at the moment so I used these sections as an example.

Do not click the threads that have been most recently posted in. This is a big NO NO.



Step 3:

Do not click the threads that have been most recently posted in. This is a big NO NO.

View all threads that are new/havn't been viewed yet and read as per usual.

After you've checked all the threads in the section, refer to step 2, and then proceed with step 3.


Step 4:

Repeat the above steps through out the entire forum. When you are done checking all the threads that interest you (you don't need to view EVERY thread, just the ones that are relevent), click this button to wipe every other un-cared for thread as 'read'. This way,sub-sections are easier to track and keep note of.

I generally check all the most recent threads right underneath the "Mark All threads as read" button to double check and see if there's anything interesting, or if some one has replied to any threads of interest.



It ticks me off how generally, the only people who reply to threads reply to the one that's been posted in the most recently. This is what kills threads and causes necros, and thread burying, and this is why the Video Game section is so dead.


Posting Constructivly

Now, seeing as how your all past the age of 16 (or are mature), there's this thing called "Constructive Criticism". it means your critique's are directed at the strength and weaknesses of something to make it better.

If there's a new player, and he's generally not doing well in RP, you point out what he needs to work on, and maybe what he's okay at instead of calling him a noob or yelling in LOOC. If you don't tel or help some one with something small, or large in some cases, chances are they arn't going to fix it over time. Instead of calling peolpe terrible RP'ers, try and show them how to RP fear, or mortality.

Anyways, tl;dr here. If your going to post, make sure it contributes to the thread and isn't just a poke at some one's ego. If your going to complain about something, suggest an alternative instead of just fucking whining about something.

How to Fix Double/Triple/Etc Posting

Step 1) Copy contents of the least recent post
Step 2) Edit most recent post and compile both posts into 1
Step 3) Click the Delete post button on the non-condenced post.



Red = Remove Post feature
Orange = Edit buttons.

Customising Your Profile

Here's a load of code to customize your forum profile. This is what I used to get that holiday picture as my background:

www.playlist.com offers a music attachment for Profiles. Just view Fluffy's profile to find one.

Just register, and then click on Post my Playlist - Other Sites - Pick your playlist - Customization features - copy and pasta the code in your profile features and Walla. You have music that can Autostart if Selected.

Video and Music Placement

Youtube Music Placement with autoplay

We have strict rules on using this feature as some users just don't want to hear crappy music, music is commonly placed on threads of interest (Rosters, info threads and announcements). It should not be used in replies, however this is somewhat allowed in the GVC.

Bellow is the correct format for placing a youtube video- but only placing music.

When getting your own to play, you simply need to copy and replace the data which is marked red bellow in our example;
youtube.com/watch?v=QFbsxMCykdk

So now it should be like this;

You can remove the autoplay feature by removing &autoplay=1 from the code.

Ketchup, Larping is roleplaying in real life.  Its quite popular.  Theres honestly nothing wrong about it.  I've got a friend who larps and its aparently quite fun.
