Building a New Rig
« on: 29-05-2011 »
I'm currently building a new rig, and hopefully will be able to order it by Tuesday when I have all the money. I already have a really good power supply, monitor, and case. I have a good set of speakers and a good headset. With the new MoBo, I can run two GFX cards, so I can use my current one and the new one I'm ordering for MAXIMUM GRAFECKS

Major Danby replied indulgently with a superior smile: "But, Yossarian, suppose everyone felt that way."
Then," said Yossarian, "I'd certainly be a damned fool to feel any other way, wouldn't I?"

Excellent choice of parts.

Only thing I would do is make very sure that your power supply is super beefy because 2 cards at once is going to get hot and draw a lot of power.

I may or may not use two GFX cards. My friend currently is SOL on his video card so I will probably give him mine. I have a 650W power supply at the moment. And thanks, I tried my best to find a perfect balance.

Also, free photoshop elements 9. squeee

650 watt is going to be struggling with 2 cards I think, you might want to check the SLI requirements.

Okay, I switched out the GFX card. This current one was a mere $2 more than the old one I picked out, and a LOT better. So, yeah. Awesome. Also, it has a lower power requirement (400W for the new one, 450W for the old one.)

You'll still need to pick a decent power brick. 50w will make the difference, but not that much of one.

This. Talk to Ping-Pong about shit power supplies. A good one isn't that expensive and will save you a lot of headache. For 1 card I bet the 650 watt you have is fine. For 2 it would be pushing it I think.

You might want to look into a liquid cooling system or a huuuuuuge PCI fan system

I have an EVGA card right now and an AMD processor. It's fine.

So I struck a deal with my Dad, who wants my old PC parts which are still pretty decent. He said he'll pay $200 for whatever if I give him the old components. So, I'm upgrading my GFX card yet again.
